ABM Logo Parker Shaft

The Parker shaft is in Franklin NJ, right on the edge of a parking lot. Started in 1891, the shaft eventually went down 971 feet (that's why its capped with 2 layers of 6inch reinforced concrete. The mine was purchased by the NJ Zinc mine in 1897 and was operated another 16 years before being abandoned. Nothing much remains today, you wouldn't even notice it was there if you stood right next to it.

Parker Mine, back in the 1800's and then today

Closer view of the parker shaft today. See the foliage that extends over into the parking lot..

The town took the extra effort to double cap this shaft, so that noone would fall 971 feet into it.

Looks like water has eroded a tiony hole into the shaft.
