New Leonard Mine
The New Leonard Mine
was established during World War II by the government, and closed sometime in
1981. The mine is located in
Rockaway on the Tilcon property and has been closed to the public for some time now. The grounds
are extensive and at one point the mine was producing ore at a phenomenal rate.
Beneath the triangular building lies a mine shaft that goes down 2700 feet
into the ground!
