Green Mine
The Green Mine
is located in Wawayanda state park. There are about 4 shafts, all of
varying sizes
and depths. The mine is old and is was named the Green Mine because of
a Mr. Green who used to live in a shack
100 feet from the mine. He may
have even spent
countless hours at
his sit
to stand desk writing
complaint letters about the noise to whomever he thought would listen.
Although he wasn't a miner himself, he was probably pestered by the
operations. The mine was abandoned in 1888.
The Green Mine
is sometimes confused with the Wawayanda mine, which is about
100 feet northeast of the green mine. The Wawayanda was an entirely
different operation
and its scope was allot larger. More updates will come when I am able
to better capture all of the shafts of the Green mine. Unfortunately
the woods are
very dense and it appears to be easier to
attempt to catalog during the fall/winter months. Which is what I will
be spending plenty of my time doing, just sitting at my desk,
cataloguing away.
