Bird Mine

The Bird Mine is a very illusive and unknown magnetite mine in Vernon, NJ. The Bureau of Mines  attempted to locate this mine in the 1970's and was unable to do so. Fortunately I was able to find it based on old maps of Vernon.

The mine appears to have been a slope which has been filled in, and goes down at least 15 feet in its present state. That and a few small pits are all that can be found today. Nothing in literature elaborates further on this mine.
